Software distribution download folder?
Vista Home premium SP1. Can I delete the files in the Software distribution
download folder without negative consequences? Mine currently has 2.2 gigs. I know this is an XP group but for some reason i can't ask a question in the Vista group. |

Deleting them shouldn't have any consequences. If you have a DVD
burner you might burn a copy ( just in case ). Vista and XP have a different initial setup structure ( i386 vs. .wim ). But I'm reasonably sure that installer components get copied to a different disk location for future reference. "ManyBeers" wrote in message ... Vista Home premium SP1. In Windows XP you can.
For Vista it looks to be safe: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-fil...ent/914170.htm JS http://www.pagestart.cpm "ManyBeers" wrote in message ... Vista Home premium SP1. Software distribution download folder?
The date and time was Tuesday, December 16, 2008 11:42:06 AM, and on a
whim, ManyBeers pounded out on the keyboard: Vista Home premium SP1. Can I delete the files in the Software distribution download folder without negative consequences? Mine currently has 2.2 gigs. I know this is an XP group but for some reason i can't ask a question in the Vista group. If you have the Installer folder (XP does), you'll find possibly even more gigs to free up. Stupid thing is though that some programs reference their icons from there. Go figure since almost all the EXE files contain them. I moved all of the folders and files from Installer to a DVD, then added back in the ones that wound up showing generic icons after a reboot. Didn't take too long to figure out. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Delete NOSPAM from the email address after clicking Reply. |

Might want to re-think modifying the \Installers content. Removing
items from there can cause issues when you go to update or change an existing application. Changing content in that folder can definitely interfere with future Microsoft Office updates. Currently my XP \Installers has just under 2.0 Gigabytes of data. Unfortunately there is no way to "Redirect" that content to another volume or partition - even using Junction Points. You may not have any immediate effects, but I wouldn't suggest to someone that \Installers is a Cleanup location - Best to leave it alone. "Terry R." wrote in message ... I did that over 6 months ago with no ill effects so far. There has been MSO updates every month and each one completed successfully. It seems crazy to have programs throw installer files everywhere. I've found them in the %APPDATA% folders, and in subfolders of Windows. With broadband, it shouldn't be necessary to store this stuff any longer when a program can be downloaded in a minute or less. But in case a program does choke, I have it backed up. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Delete NOSPAM from the email address after clicking Reply. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will probably wait until the contents will
fill a dvd and then burn them. |
