Default Launching Screen Saver & setting it's Priority

If I launch my screensaver (by clicking on it's respective icon), it runs at
full speed, with priority = ABOVENORMAL. However, if the screensaver
launches by itself (due to the wait interval in the control panel), it is
painfully slow.

Is there a way to change the startup priority of a screensaver? I've tried
this command from the cmd prompt: start /ABOVENORMAL myscreensaver.scr -S

This launches a new command window...does nothing.

If I enter this from the cmd prompt: myscreensaver.scr -S
It runs fine. Why is the start command not running my screen saver? Is
there another way to have it automatically run in ABOVENORMAL priority?
