Default Have static IP address, but tcp/ip property page always shows “Obtain IP address automatically”, Windows XP

I am seeing some strange behavior, and was wondering if anyone else
has encountered this, or knows how to fix it.

I have assigned a static IP address to my computer, but when I open
the TCP/IP Properties page for the connection, the option "Obtain an
IP address automatically" is always selected. However, ipconfig shows
that the network adapter has the correct static address, and my
connectivity is just fine.

Any ideas why the property page shows incorrect information? a bad
registry key? something else? I don't see anything suspicious in the
event viewer either.

I am running Windows XP, and the network card is an Intel 82566MM
Gigabit adapter

Thanks, Jen
