Default Highlighting in notepad

In my old windows 2000 version of notepad, when highlighting a large amount
of data in notepad, I could just move my mouse below the window and it would
continue to scroll down and highlight. Now in xp I have to continually move
my mouse to get the highlighting to continue scrolling down. Is there a
setting I can change to make this work the way it used to?

Also, is there a way to start highlighting, and then have it jump to the
bottom of the file (highlighting everything in-between?

Hope I'm clear on my questions.
Thanks.

Are you wanting to highlight, yellow background? Or, gather text with the
mouse?.

If gathering text with the mouse, when at the bottom of the display, try
moving the mouse left and then to the right while moving the mouse downward.

Sorry don't have any idea on your problem, but I can answer your other
question. You can highlight multiple items with the keyboard in the
manney you describe by clicking where you want the highlight to begin,
then hold down the shift key then press the "end" key.

Thanks for replying Don, but that's why I said I had to keep moving the mouse
... back and forth. In the old version, I just had to move the mouse below
the window and it would continue to scroll without further movement. When
you are highlighting a large amount of text the having to continually move
back and forth is a pain.
Thanks anyway.

That is not a defect, but a feature to control the speed of scrolling. If
you move the pointer slightly left or right, it scrolls slowly so you don't
jump to far. Move faster and it auto scrolls faster.

Double click the first word you want to select, then press Ctrl+Shift+End
keys. Another way is to hold shift and use the Page Down key.

(Triple click this message to select all the text.
