internet connect failure

My laptop runs XP on a wireless LAN. Everything was fine for years until a
few days ago. The connection to the LAN is fine (printer and file sharing
works) but I can't connect to the internet, even if I disengage from the LAN
and resort to dialup. My settings haven't been changed, at least that I know
of.

On my desktop, I can connect to the internet just fine. Do I have a
corruption or missing file problem?

It would be a Very big help if you would explain what the LAN is comprised
of, and how technically you are connected to the Internet (when you are Not
using DialUp).

of, and how technically you are connected to the Internet (when you are Not
using DialUp).

Comprised of Linksys wireless-B 802.11b router, DSL modem, and I use a
Linksys Wireless-B 802.11b adapter in my laptop. My ISP is Earthlink. Hope

So I ran WinSockFix and LSP-fix with no change...still no internet
connection. Then I clicked on the link to reset the TCP/IP
stackhttp://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us%3B299357)
The instructions said that I should click "Another Computer" when prompted
during Download Guided Help. I wasn't prompted for this, so I saved the .exe
file on a thumb drive. When I tried to execute it on my laptop, which I am
attempting to fix, I got the error message "The system cannot find the file
specified."

So I'm still unable to connect.

If the download file does not work for you use the manual process as
described below it on the same page.
Alternatively if your laptop allows you to switch Off the LAN card (usually
in the BIOS set up).
Disable the LAN card and reboot the computer. Reboot down switch On the LAN
card and boot again.
Windows should reinstall the LAN setting. This might help too,
