My new computer came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Upon receipt
early last month, I loaded many programs, some from CDs/DVDs and
others from .exe files that I'd downloaded to my Downloads
folder. All installed smoothly, exactly like in Windows 7 or XP
(I first installed Start8 and I live on the desktop, not the
Start Screen.).

Suddenly, programs won't install. I have downloaded .exe files
for the new CCleaner, Revo Uninstaller, and a Flash Player
update. When I click on each in the downloads folder, NOTHING
happens.

What's wrong here? How can I get these programs to install?

The free revo uninstaller has never worked for me in Win8 no matter how
hard I tried, however after a fresh install I just use the 30 day
version of Revo Uninstaller Pro which *does* work with win8 and in fact
on their website it mentions the pro version "works with win 8" like
it's saying that the free version doesn't after the 30 days I reccoment
IO bit uninstaller OR a Geek Uninstaller

actually Geek I think I like better

have fun

Windows 8.1. Revo free works just fine for me.

you using 64 bit PC? I just checked again and that seems to be an issue
(maybe it's been fixed, well apparently I think most people are using 64
bit pc's with win 8 I assume)

Yes I am. Two laptops. One running Windows 7 64 bit and the other is
running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Revo free works fine on both of them.

I never grew up using that expression, but then I heard it a few years
ago for the first time and it made sense/felt right

I had a friend in San Antonio, a dropped-out Catholic
Redemptorist monk seminarian, who used "cool beans" all the time.
