Strange log-on
I switched on my Win8.1 desktop today, and got on with some other stuff.
When I came back it had logged into a temporary account; messages saying this is a temporary account and all files will go when you log out. The Skydrive folder was opened full-screen. WTBHF? What, why, where, when, and how? I logged out, logged in (normal and good) and found that all the Skydrive sync settings were ticked. I unticked the lot. Has anyone else had this? Maybe something to do with a recent update. Ed |

That's why I turned it all off (or thought I had) at setup. It's sneaked up on me. And it must have been a recent update, because it was sailing along nicely until that happened. MS have incorporated Skydrive into Win8's kernel; and the default is "on". Simply to remove the icon from the systray takes a registry hack. Ed |

When I installed Win8, I did not create a Skydrive account, and it looks like that's equivalent to not activating it. If that's not the case, I'd like to know how to eliminate it (as much as is possible, that is). If you never created a Skydrive account, nothing to worry about. I have one but I store nothing there and I don't worry. -- Bill Gateway M465e ('06 era) - Thunderbird v24.3.0 Centrino Core2 Duo T7400 2.16 GHz - 4GB - Windows 7 Home SP1 |

If that's not the case, I'd like to know how to eliminate it (as much as is possible, that is). I ended up with a Skydrive due to automatic creation of it by MS when they changed to that from its predecessor. I had some large files on it that I edit and make available for people; and I wanted to retain them. I think I've got the thing set ok now; keep Skydrive and disable auto syncing on the computer's settings. Ed P.S. I have so much free online storage that it staggers me to think just how much there must actually be for all of us Joe Soaps. My Skydrive and Dropbox alone add up to about 7GB; and I'm probably not using more than about 2% of that. |
