Default File Associations

Windows 8 64

More than once, file associations have been lost particularly .pdf files

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations

Scroll to .PDF and select program which shows as "not selected"
Choose program for file association

Still shows "not selected"

Double click on PDF file on desktop and the dialogue box "how do you want to
open ..." opens.

A reboot does not correct the problem.

Whatever the problem is, it probably isn't generic to Win 8 64, as I've only
seen that with particular apps that ignore the file association. Others
always use Adobe Reader, the one I've set to read PDFs by default. So, I'd
point my finger at the errant app, not the OS.

Default File Associations

Well I would probably think that as well but if you are selecting the
program to use through the Control Panel Windows File associations app you
would think that it would stick.

I am using PDFXchange Viewer 2.5 (freeware) and for nearly 6 months there
was never a problem. The PDFXchange viewer icon showed on all the PDF files
in all folders including any saved directly to the desktop but then a few
days ago now, the icon displayed is the generic document.

In the program itself there is a "Set File Associations" button but that as
well does not seem to reset.

Thanks for your help. There is a minor upgrade to the 2.5 I am using I will
see if that will resolve the issue.
