Default My music, games etc freeze my computer

About 3 wks ago a game I had been playing Bejeweled2 just froze every time I
launched it. I removed it - it won't re-install. Now when I go into My Music,
double click a track it opens in iTunes, or Windows Media PLayer - looks like
it is playing or freezes, go on the internet which is working fine go onto
YouTube, or Live Radio etc - shows as though it is playing sound - but its
not. Or it freezes! I have run all the suggestions through help and support
centre, dxdiag etc - all works properly it says! When I switch on my computer
it plays the normal jingle though and the intermittent bongs etc like when a
new email comes still play too. What else can I try?Any help will be very
gratefully received! Thanks in anticipation!

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight ALL of the Sound devices,
Action menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver") then
Action menu,"scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers again
automatically.

It's possibly a problem with a codec.

Using codecs:
