User Account is blank and gives file not found error
Got a problem, here's where it started: 1) I have one account on my XP-Home computer: Me 2) I recently attempted to install a wireless printer and it failed saying that I didn't have administrative privileges. In the 5 years I've owned this computer that's the first time I've gotten that error. 3) So I went to Control Panels - User Accounts to see what was up...only I get an error "The system cannot find the file specified" and there are no users shown in the applet. I get the same problem when I launch the applet from the command line with -nusrmgr.cpl- or with -mshta.exe "res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nusrmgr.cpl/nusrmgr.hta"- 4) Based on some posts on various sites I tried: -regsrv32 /i mshtml- ... this returns an error "mshtml was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. mshtml does not appear to be a .DLL or .OCX file." So the original problem isn't fixed an I seem to have uncovered another. 5) by contrast these commands are successful: -regsrv32 /i nusrmgr.cpl regsrv32 jscript- 6) Since I still can't use User Accounts, I downloaded and ran useraccfix.vbs. It ran successfully but doesn't solve the problem. So I give up...got any more ideas. Since I'm not exactly sure what's broken it's hard to know how to fix it. I suspect that if I knew what file wasn't found when launching the User Accounts applet the solution might become obvious. Thanks. -- Imstumped2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Imstumped2's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=51105 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=981856 http://forums.techarena.in |
