First - posting an email address in a newsgroup - invitation to spam/worse (at best.) Second - not enough information. We can assume some things, but others - only you know. - You are running some version of Windows XP (because you posted in this Windows XP newsgroup). - You have a Dell Dimension 2400 (It's written on the front of the computer around the power button, most likely.) Now that we have gotten past all we do know... (or think we know): - You have not provided the version or service pack level of said operating system. (Home edition? Professional Edition? SP1a? SP2? SP3? etc...) - You may/may not get some sort of error when the problem occurs or when you reboot from the problem. - You may/may not have done any testing of any hardware. - You may/may not have made any changes before this started happening. - You may/may not have done any troubleshooting on your own. Just given what you have - I have only one suggestion so far. - Turn off the computer. - Unlplug all cables and such from it. - Remove the outer casing so you can see inside. - Purchase a can of compress air - for cleaning electronics. - Blow out all areas of the computer you can. Especially any fans you see. - Make sure all cables and connections are pushed in/connected well. - Put the computer case back on. - Hook up all cabling and such. - Turn on your computer. If it was heat related and all the fans are still working - you may have removed the dust that could havebeen holding in the extra heat. If you come back with more information (see above) - perhaps someone here can give you more targetted help. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

And "Ask here, get answer here" is the general rule. Not only is it a general rule, but posting your E-mail address in a newsgroup is an invitation to get spammed. Moreover, many newsgroup participants (me, for example) will never reply to questions here by personal E-mail. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
