Default PC won't stay in standby

If I go to Start, Turn Off Computer, and click StandBy, my PC goes into
standby, but it won’t stay there. After about 30 seconds it comes out of
standby. Also, when I go to Control Panel and Power Options and set it to
go into standby automatically when it is idle for a designated number of
minutes, it does not go into standby , or if it does, it doesn’t stay
there.
Can anyone tell me why the standby settings do not work?

Johnny Fosse: Thank you for giving me the information. It was a great help
and it solved my problem. It would be difficult to operate a PC without
people like you to provide answers to problems.
