HI! I saved my inbox, sent, and deleted folders as dbx files. Then I
reloaded windows xp on my computer. Now I had to redo my outlook
express. How do I get these three folders back into my new outlook
express? I saved and imported my address book with ease. But when I
try to import "messages" (I placed these dbx files on my desktop) it
cannot find it. I tried dragging these files into outlook express,
but then OE made it an attachment to an email. HELP!

Why did you save the contents of OE's trash can (i.e., Deleted Items.dbx)?

Importing a single DBX file

To use these files, you also need the file "folders.dbx", but it sounds like
you didn't save that one. When saving OE files, you should save the entire
folder, not just individual files.

You can however recover from this situation by closing OE, moving the
existing Inbox and Deleted files to another folder, and swapping in the old
ones.

Restart OE, and you should see those two folders as they were. Now, create
two new folders, for example OldInbox and OldDeleted, and copy all of the
messages from Inbox and Deleted to those folders. Shut down OE again,
move the Inbox and Deleted folders out of the OE folder, and swap the other
ones back in.

Restart OE, and you should have all the messages again.

Hello,

Open Outlook Express and create the respective folders. Close Outlook
Express.

Navigate to your store folder where the OE stores its DBX files. They should
have the exact file names as the one you have a backup of.

Now just copy the backup DBX files and *overwrite* the ones in the store
folder. Start Outlook Express again and you should see your folders with the
original mail messages.

To find the store folder: Start Outlook Express Tools Options
Maintenance Store Folder and the textbox will show you the location of
your store folder.

I've never been able to get the "import" function to work

I simply copy thedbxfilesover

be sure to do so *prior* to using OE

Thedbxfilesare pretty well hidden within your profile

just do a drive search for *.dbx

you may need to enable "hidden"

I saved those dbx files onto an external hard drive, then I reloaded
Windows XP. *I dragged those dbx files back onto my desktop. *So,
those files would not be hidden anywhere because I just put them back
onto the desktop. *How then do I get them into Outlook Express. *I
would really like to get my old inbox, deleted, and sent folders into
the new OE.- Hide quoted text -

Thank you for your response. I found the "location" of the Inbox
folder by going into the store folder link. So, now what. You said
to "overwrite" them with my old inbox file. Well, HOW do you do
that? All I have is a location. I don't actually have a file that
I'm looking at to do anything with. There's no real "Folder" that I'm
looking at with files inside. I really need step by step help
please ....
