Default Hotplug.dll Exception Error

I have a USB external HDD connected - when I turn it on, I get the
expected 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the task bar.

When I try to execute it, I get the error - AN EXCEPTION OCCURED WHILE
TRYING TO RUN "Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll".

I have tried the few suggestions I found via Google on hotplug.dll
problems - with no luck.

I am running XP SP3.

Anyone?

Thanks

Duke

I had the identical problem on two of my XP machines.

I eventually decided to perform a repair install with a (slipstreamed)
XP_sp3 cd and that cleared up to error.

same thing for the second machine

I'll try it.

Thanks

OK please post back with the results...

you will need to reinstall your updates...and on both my machines IE8
caused problems so I uninstalled it. IE7 works fine

Restored from recent backup - problem has gone away (for now anyway).
I'll have to review updates since my backup.

Thanks
