unvalidated copy of xp pro locked me out...how do i get my files o
I needed to reinstall my xp pro, but couldn't find my disk, so I borrowed
another one to install it temporarily until I could locate my own. Well as it turned out, my copy was stolen and now 30 days have passed and I'm locked out, unable to get past the WGA. No big deal really, I had been looking for a reason to buy a new pc anyway, so I went out and purchased a new HP with Vista. I brought it home and installed the old hard drive into it so I could copy my files. I disabled simple file sharing and took ownership of the drive, but it still will not let me access it. Is WGA still the problem here? If so, what the heck do I do now? |

If so, what the heck do I do now? put the hdd back to where it belonged try one or more options below - boot to bios and set the clock one month backword, and hope you could boot up the old xp - boot to a Knoppix bootable CD and try to access the hdd - boot to an UBCD4Win bootable CD and try to access the hdd |

Also, permissions are granted on files, not on drives (so I don't know what you actually did regarding permissions). In the security settings for the files (or for the folders provided you also inherit changes to it to the files and folders under it), what are the settings for the Administrators and Owner accounts? Do they have Full permissions? Are you logging under the Administrator, admin-level, or owner account after changing permissions? |

I don't believe I mentioned anything about permissions; however, I have
checked the permission page for the only account on the machine (mine) and it has full permissions. As far as logging into another account after changing permissions, there is only one account on this machine, and it is an administrator account. I did...and after gathering info from a large number of sites, I settled on
the MS procedure outlined in the article "How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP". I followed the steps outlined and was able to take ownership; however, I am still getting the "access is denied" message. "philo" wrote: "throttlehog" wrote in message ...
