Default Files are renamed/duplicated after System Restore !!

Hi everyone,

I did a System Restore in late September although I shouldn't have, I did a
Diskcheck which fixed the hard drive. Anyway, after the System Restore I got
a message that said certain files were renamed to preserve their
functionality or something to that effect. I briefly looked over the files
but I didn't write them down.

Recently and this may have started after the System Restore, I noticed the
PC would startup with a black selection screen that prompts you to choose
either Windows XP or System Recovery. I know this pops up if you got a couple
of operating systems but I only have one and it always went straight to log
in or desktop. While I was fixing the black startup screen I had to edit the
boot file and I noticed the first line that says Windows XP mine is labeled
where it says partition as "partition(2)" and I've heard it should always be
a (1). So then I remembered about the System Restore I did and the renamed
and duplicated files that are mostly in the TEMP folder in C: Documents and
Settings/TEMP.

I searched the PC for any files containing (2) and got 431 files but not
all of them are the ones that were changed. I notice many of them were
modified on September 26 of this year which is when I did the System Restore.
I was thinking of either just deleting all the folders in the TEMP folder,
deleting all the files modified on Sept 26, or doing a Disk Cleanup to see if
it removes those files.

Another concern I have is if the System Restore changed the way partition
is labeled in the boot file. In System Configuration Utility it says timeout=
3, default=multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS, [operating systems],
multi(0)disk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

I know I can edit the boot file to change partition to (1) but I don't want
to do it if it will mess up the system and not even let me startup.
