Default Best browser for WinXP

Hi,

WinXP will never die. This post is from Outlook Express. I have a vast
quantity of software designed for WinXP. I am an oldie. WinXP and many
linuxes, I run on Oracle VirtualBox under Win10 ( and also Win7). VirtualBox
VMs are a lot more convenient than a bunch of separate boxes. And with RDP,
I can access them from thin clients.

QUESTION: Google Chrome says it is withdrawing support for WinXP. Googling
identifies FireFox complaints. So what is the Best browser for WinXP, that
will last forever? IE is obsolete.

Thanks in advance.

My solution is to use the Pale Moon "Atom" variant.

From this page:
https://www.palemoon.org/PM_end_of_WinXP_support.shtml

"Recommended: Since the specialized Atom version will continue to support
Windows XP (because of the large amount of netbooks being limited to that
operating system) you can switch to that version."

https://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-atom.shtml

Pale Moon is a Firefox variant that many people like.

John

There is no such thing as a web browser that will last forever. Even if
you choose to remain using an oldie version of Google Chrome (which is
doable, for now), eventually web sites will block you from accessing
some or all of their content. They will reject connections from old web
browsers because the site is not stagnant so it has moved to new
features or technologies supported only in newer web browsers.

You could try to lie by using an add-on/extension that lies about which
web browser you use to connect to a site by altering the User Agent
header but there remain functionality tests a page can perform to
determine the capabilities of the web browser (and, in fact, the UA
string will get deprecated as it can be spoofed and is not reliable as
to the capabilities of a web browser so object testing is recommended).
So you sticking with an old version web browser may cease to be usable
at some sites (and the number will grow) and lying in the UA string
won't work if the site actually tests for functionality rather than
assume it from the UA string.

Dropping support does not mean the program ceases to load, crashes on
load, or explodes in your computer. Dropping support means just that
and nothing about whether or not the code for old versions will continue
to run on the old OS. Hell, the NNTP client I use to post here was
abandoned by its author back in 2005 but it is still a viable program.
Have you considered disabling Google Chrome's auto-update option (and
its scheduled tasks, and its update service) to eliminate any nags that
there are newer versions (that won't install on WinXP)?

Googling will show complaints about EVERY web browser (unless the author
chose to not provide any online support, like forums, so all problem
reports remain hidden from the Internet except there are only places to
complain about a web browser).

What works NOW for you under Windows XP? So why can't you continue
using THAT? After all, you are still using Windows XP so it having its
support dropped didn't make you move to something else, lack of support
didn't make it stop loading, didn't make it unusable (to you), and
didn't make it explode in your computer.

If you want a web browser that will never die and never needs security
updates then get Lynx (http://lynx.invisible-island.net/), a text-based
web browser; however, you will find your web browsing experience very
disappointing.

Just stick with the browser you are using now.

Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers
and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one.
Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those
newspapers delivered to your door every morning.

Pale Moon is my main browser, I'm very happy with it.
