Default Photo Viewer

Can someone tell me where to find the photo viewer that comes with
windows 10? I've searched everywhere but can't find the file that
opens it.

I've just come from using windows 7, and I knew where the file was for
7. I have 3rd party software that needs an external photo viewer. I
really don't want to install a seperate viewer.

Any help would be appreciated.

But I still have a functioning brain that can understand what people are
asking. And I'll be here long after you have turned to dust and blown away.

I see the OP received the asked for answer.

In addition...
Most people I know use "Irfanview" instead.

Does anyone who uses the MS photo viewer asked for have anything that the
MS viewer does that Irfanview doesn't do?

Irfanview has far more capabilities than Photo Viewer. But it all
depends on what people's goals/needs are. i just changed set a W10
user's system, which for some reason had no photo default, to Adobe
Photoshop Elements. Which is what this user wanted.

A. The "Photos" app that comes with Windows 10 is here, but that
will probably not help you.

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2019.19 071.17920.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Microsoft.Photos.ex e

It is a UWP/"Store" app, not a desktop app. UWP/"Store" apps
are started differently to desktop apps.

1) You cannot start "Photos" by using Microsoft.Photos.exe
as the command.
2) It does not take command-line parameters.

B. Windows 10 also has the Windows 7 "Photo Viewer" app, here and
here.

"C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll"
"C:\Windows\System32\shimgvw.dll"

These are DLLs, not .exe files.

If your 3rd party software happens to be FortΓ© Agent, then in
that case you might want to see these threads in the Agent
newsgroup alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent for how to
start "Photo Viewer" from Agent.

* Jun 2019: Photos *.jpg/jpeg
* Dec 2017: Windows 10 - MIME association for graphic images
* Aug 2017: Windows Photo Viewer settings in Agent
* May 2016: Reinstalled Agent Version 2 Has Lost Image Display
* May 2011: How to associate to Windows Photo Viewer?

Why are there two DLLs, not one? Because shimgvw.dll used to be
the old Windows Fax and Picture Viewer in XP, but in Windows 10 it
just loads and runs Windows Photo Viewer.

This changes the subject slightly but I think it is appropriated to the
idea behind your question. I have used the MS viewers but find
Irfanview much better for handling the task I need a viewer for.

https://www.irfanview.com/

It does all that the MS viewers do. In addition you can combine images
(Panorama Function) both horizontally and vertically.

If you are working with document images, there is an OCR plug in for
Irfanview, that convert those document images to text.

It can open and save to most image formats including the multi page
formats like PDF, TIF, and JPM.

It has batch processing capabilities like rename, color correction,
resizing, etc.

There are many additional function that I have not used.

"Try it you will like it." to quote an old commercial.

I use Photo Viewer to view photos. If I want to do anything with them
then I use something else. It doesn't matter that Photo Viewer is 40
years old. I prefer it to anything else.
And the so-called ? Good Guy ? doesn't have to be so bloody rude.
