Default Office10 (Office14?) and its installation.

I have my legal disk of the above, but it refuses to install on
another machine because it's been "used already three times".

If I isolate it from the Internet by using it on an encrypted VHD will
I still get this refusal?

Then I can continue to use it by unplugging the Internet for the
session?

I have used my MS Office 10 and MS Office 7 so many times I can't count.
Sometimes, rarely, but sometimes, they won't validate.
One time I called Microsoft and they "fixed" it for me.
Dunno what they did.

Basically, for me, the problem is I retire machines and then I install the
Office on another machine, and that adds to the count (which, for Office
2007, has to be at about 10 or so machines by now at least).

As I recall, Microsoft says there is an 'official' way to retire a machine
that you put MS Office on, but that you've since retired.

A search shows the term is "deactivation", as in:

I have called them and Microsoft "fixes" it magically, somehow.
Dunno how they did it as it was a while ago.

There's also an office "deactivation" process when you retire a PC:

We've discussed this detailed process in the past but the web searchable
archives for this ng suck, so let me look on the winxp ng instead:
o https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

This is a search for 'office deactivation'
o https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general/office$20deactivation

Drat. It must have been only in the Windows 10 ng (which is why I generally
_add_ a dejagoogled ng when I open a thread - so that it's archived).

Sigh.

But I sent a URL in another post from the Microsoft web site on how to
deactivate an Office non-subscription installation so you can re-use it.

BTW, two things happened last I installed MS Office 2007 (within the past
month) that are related to your dilemma.

1. Without validation, you get 25 (about) runs (it tells you this the first
time you run any MS Office program after installing it).

2. Office 2007, in August 2020 refuses to validate by phone; you have to
validate by Internet.

Also note that I wonder if they count against you the fact of whether it's
the same machine or a different machine. In my case, it's the same set
of machines I keep re-installing MS Office on (after I format the HDD).
