win messenger vs. msn messenger
Greetings Erin,
The Add/Remove Windows Components will not remove Windows Messenger -- it will simply hide it, other applications which try to use Windows Messenger, will still trigger it. You can completely remove Windows Messenger 4.x (the old version), but if you do, you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger from working (or loading without problems). Most likely the application that is loading Windows Messenger is Outlook Express. To stop Outlook Express from doing this, download and run this .reg file: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...ssenger_oe.reg ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "erin" wrote in message ... what is the difference between windows messenger and msn messenger? i know win messenger came pre-installed on my new xp computer, and i had to download msn messenger. however, though i have un-installed windows messenger from the "add/remove windows components", it still seems to show up every now and again and interferes with me signing onto msn messenger. i would just rather use msn messenger, but how do i get rid of windows messenger? uninstalling it hasn't seemed to work. |
