Default Belkin Router and Windows Messenger Help required

Can anybody please tell me what to do in order to use the video and audio
conferencing facilities of windows messenger v 4.7.

I have a Belkin F5D6230-3 router and Windows XP operating system.

I understand it has something to do with NAT and firewall but cannot get it
to work at present.

Thanks

Greetings Martin,

Unfortunately, the Belkin router does not support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) -- which is
required for Messenger voice/video connections to be made through a router (or other device
that uses NAT).

However, using a third party utility called DirectTalk, you may be able to get around this:

Hi!

I have a Beklin router and I found the way to use voice/audio.

1. Go to www.belkin.com and get the firmware update V1.20.004
2. Login ti router in web browser 192.168.2.1
3. Login (no need Password)
4. In menu chose Initial Setup
5. Security choose firewall
6. Do you want to be alerted of intrusion attempts? set NO and ENTER key
7. View in Network conections what is your ip. ( My network places »
Proprieties » status of network connection)
8. In DMZ menu IP Address of Virtual DMZ Host put your last number of ip and
enable.
Click ENTER.
9. Close browser window, and try the mensenger.

Good luck
Teresa

Hi Teresa,

Hmm -- hopefully this is true, although Belkin doesn't document any Messenger support it
would be nice if they added it. Since it only works with the DMZ setting, most likely they
added some built-in support for Messenger voice/video, but not Universal Plug and Play
(UPnP). Out of curiosity, which model of Belkin router do you have?

Hmm,

I tried what you suggested but still cannot get it to work, did you disable
NAT as well?
