Default Windows Messenger and DirectX9a

Thanks Jonathan for the attached.

I tried it but it didn't work straight away.

However, when I deleted them all then ran the setup a
home network wizard all was fine.

Cheers.

Mark.

Greetings John,

You might try going through the Audio (and Video) Tuning

Wizard in case one of your devices
has changed its name (which cases this "effect" to

occur). To do so, open the main Messenger
window, click the Tools menu, then Audio Tuning Wizard.

Both you and your contact should do
this.

Also, both you and your contact should clear your UPnP

entries in your router. To do so,
click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications,

Network Connections. Right-click your
"Internet Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway

heading) and choose Properties.
Choose the Settings button, click each 'msmsgs'

or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete'
to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click the

Messenger icon, choose Exit), then
restart Messenger.

I thought DirectX9a was supposed to fix bugs in

connection with Messenger.
But instead it made things worse!

After upgrading to DX9a Messenger 4.7.2005 cannot

setup a video or voice
conversation.
It worked perfectly fine before the upgrade.

I tried to install MSN Messenger instead but got the

same error.

It seems like the connection gets established but is

lost in under half a
second.

I am using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router with the latest

UPnP enabled (and
fixed) firmware (ver 1.44.2z).
The other end of the conversation is using a Linksys

BEFSR41 router also
with the latest firmware (ver 1.44.2).

Is this the same problem we encountered when upgrading

to DX9 with the old
Linksys firmware?
It is certainly not as severe as it was by then.

Do we need a new router firmware (again) or is there

another fix?

Keep up the good work MS...
