Default messenger issue

Hello from Canada,

maybe one of the MVPs can comment on how Nortan Firewall is impacting you.
I have the same router and had the same problem. Did two things to make it
go away:
(1) added Network Services 6891 to 6900 to my Firewall Settings (sorry, I
use ICF instead of Norton). Messenger had a problem with open these ports
through Application Layer Gateway when transferring files. The problem
might have been fixed by.
(2) read Steve Winograd's article on Workgroup network set up. Very
informative.

Let us know if you are still having problems after creating static settings
for those network services. You might have to read Steve's article. I will
try to dig it up for you. You will probably have to deal with no more than
three key points in the article.

Regards,

Mark Bryski

Ok , I know I have read many hours in here and still no
avail. I have win XP with a linksys BEFW11type router,
have all the latest firmware and updates from microsoft.
I can white board, send video which can only do this if
other party sends me the invitation. I cannot send files
nor send video from my side. one message i receive is:
We could not send this file because the connection is
blocked. Please contact your system administrator or
Internet service provider; they may be able to enable
file transfers. Now I have gave permissions in my Norton
Firewall for messenger to permit all. My Norton is 2003,
I have messenger 5.0 which was updated from 4.7 which is
still on my machine. I cannot receive files either. I am
on a cable connection with upnp turned on. I just really
don't know what to do anymore. WHAT AM I MISSING???
