Default stopping messenger from running

Every time I open Outlook Express, Windows Messenger opens with it. I've
turned off the Auto-Login to Messenger feature in Outlooks 'tools/options',
and even gone so far as to uninstall Messenger from 'add/remove programs',
but there it is.

Any thoughts?

thanks :: sg

Greetings,

To stop this, close Outlook Express, and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...ssenger_oe.reg
You'll need to start Outlook Express to see the change.

THANKS SO MUCH JONATHAN!!!! I have been searching for a
way to remove Windows Messenger (stop it from showing up
in the system tray when Outlook Express was launched) for
ages!! I even asked MS Tech Support online and on the
phone -- no results, other than to uncheck everything,
which did not work in removing the icon/programme. Your
solution HAS WORKED!!! I'M SO HAPPY I'M DANCING RIGHT
NOW!!! Now I can go and do the same for my Mom's computer
too -- thanks so mych once again.

Hi Stewie,

Then this isn't the problem -- this key completely stops Outlook Express from loading
Messenger, no exceptions.

Do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning"
feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and display this
behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the
System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options,
then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.
