Shared printers automatically appearing in other users printers
I have Windows XP Pro running in a mixed O/S workgroup
(not domain, or AD) envrioment, which is exhibiting a feature I would like to disable, without removing the shared printers from the other computers. The problem is that XP is automatically adding all printers it finds in the workgroup which are shared printers. Under the olders O/S's, you needed to implicidly add a workgroup printer to your printers tab in order to have access to is, now the XP machine, even under a limited user account, is searching the network for all printers which are shared, and automatically adding them to its printers group. How do I stop this from happening short of removing the shares from all computers withing the workgroup. This behaviour is with all Microsoft O/S based computers, i.e. if I have a XP machine with a shared printer, then the second XP machine in the workgroup will automatically add the shared printer from the other XP machine to its printer lists. |
