Default Printing direct to com port from MS-DOS Programme

Hi Can anyone help with a problem I am having with a MS-
DOS programme, now that I have installed XP from Windows
ME.
I have a printer connect to my COM port, & in ME the Dos
programme was able to print in 'real time', now there is
a delay of about 30 seconds.
The progamme has its own inbuilt drivers for the printer,
so the printer is not 'installed' in 'XP Printers'.
I did try installing the priter within XP, but it didn't
made any difference.
Thanks
Bob Patrick
