Default connected to the network (maybe) yet no internet

i have a wireless base station (g) with 2 notebooks (wireless..one with b, the other with g) and one desktop (wired) allowed to connect. one notebook (the g) connects just fine, and i have internet access. the desktop connects just fine, and i have inter
net access. the second notebook connects to the network, though it cannot grab an ip address from the network, and it cannot connect to the internet. this notebook can connect to the internet just fine on my school network, so the wireless card works. t

...it's the compaq that's giving me trouble). compaq tech support thinks it's a software issue (but as to what software and how to fix it, i cannot get an answer), microsoft (the base station brand and the operating system) thinks it's compaq's issue. th
e base station is set up for mixed signals (b and g)...when it was set up only for g, the b computer didn't get a signal from the station. i can wire the compaq into the station and i have internet access. the ipconfig info for the compaq indicates that
the wireless media is not connected. any suggestions would be appreciated.
