Default renewing Ip address

I have 3 computers on a home network using a linksys8-port workgroup switch.
2 of the computers are XP pro and 1 XP home. The 2 XP pro are fine the XP
home will not connect tot the network I am getting lights on the switch, i
tried to repair the connection but i get an error that says cannot renew IP
address, so i went throught the directions to release and renew IP address
When I renew i get " an error occured while renewing interface local area
connection unable to contact your DHCP server request timed out" any ideas?

==================================
Could be an Ethernet cable gone bad.
Could be an Ethernet card gone bad.
Could be a Switch port gone bad.
Could be a Firewall program gone haywire.
Could be damaged Winsock keys in the Registry.
Could be some third-party program interfering.

Does the same thing happen when you boot to
Safe Mode With Networking?

If yes, you could try this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811259

If XP Service Pack 2 is installed, you can accomplish
the same result by running this command from the
Command Prompt Window (START RUN cmd):

netsh winsock reset

Restart the computer after that command runs successfully.

If you have spywares that are damaging the Winsock keys,
then they will just reinfect them again, so any spywares should
be removed before repairing the Winsock keys.

Anti Spyware programs:

Ad-Aware SE

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2
