Default Duplicate Versions of Window

My laptop's instruction manual stated to install Windows XP. Apparently,
there was already a version running on there. Now, I have two versions and my
computer is sluggish. I am out of my warranty period. I know that I have to
remove everything and reinstall it. (I think.) Can anyone tell me the best
way to go about this?

Thanks in advance.
