Yes, but why would you want to.
3-4 years ago this was a hot topic but then it died down, when people finally realized that it was to their advantage to leave the function enabled. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! The Prefetch folder contains information regarding the optimal disk layout
of program files so they launch quicker. You may delete all those files, but XP will rebuild that folder so that your computer runs as efficiently as possible. After deleting the prefetch files, your computer's performance will suffer slightly until the prefetch folder is rebuilt. It takes approximately three computer reboots to properly rebuild the prefetch folder contents. My question was how to do the change if I wanted to eliminate Prefetch files. I know the reason of those files and what they are suppose to do for a slow machine. However, my humble testing 'of files or no files' on my desktop did not show me a difference in time to start or load programs. There is some minor delay in loading or starting programs on my laptop. That has a slow chip and only 1 MB of ram. Thanks again. Bquinn |

Is it like a "coach" thing or calling roll in a class? I can understand in speech - Stanley is an obvious name - easy to say, hard to mess up. My first name is not so easy - so I can understand someone preferring to say my last name the first few times - even asking how to pronounce my first name... It's a save face and embarrassment issue then. However - here - in the newsgroups - I have always signed my name (signed) as Shenan Stanley or even just Shenan. No comma to indicate LastName, FirstName or anything like that. Just curious if I am missing something... Of course - while I am wondering - I also have wondered how people can misspell my name - with it in type in front of them. Happens in emails as well (both things actually.) Thus why I ask... What secret of the universe am I missing... Should I refer to people by their last names more? *grin* -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

In my case I have used last names all of my life both in the Army (29 years) and in retirement for 31 years. Heck at this time in life (77) I am happy to remember anyone's name. We live in an apartment type hotel with about 270 apartments and I think we all should be wearing name tags (48 point so we can read them) ... grin. Again thanks! Bquinn |

Eliminate Prefetch Files
I have the same habit - I call all my friends by their last name and even
call my grown up kids by their last name sometimes just for fun. I'm 57 and way back when I was in my early teens we all called each other by last names. We even had a few teachers do the same thing. Who knows ? "Wquinn" wrote in message ... "Shenan Stanley" wrote in message ... Wquuinn wrote: Is there a way to eliminate Prefetch files from being written to your hard disk? Hi Shenan,
You need to get out more often. (Hi, Hi) People just don't seem to pay attention as they once did. Your help in these newsgroups is much appreciated by those of us who seem to be spending a lot of time tripping over our own feet. Good luck and Thank you for the help Best regards, Side-question...
