Changing The Letter Of Boot Drive Or Boot Partition
Hi. My current OS (XP) boots on C partition. I want to rename this partition
as W (W from Windows) (obviously, I want my XP still boots on this new W partition). What are the steps? thanks. |

There are no steps. You can't do this. You can rename any partition except the one Windows is on. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |

This *might* work, but no guarantees: 1) Delete the existing partition. 2) Use a 3rd Party boot manager to create a new partition, format it, and assign it the desired drive letter. 3) Reinstall WinXP and applications. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |

I meant an alternative to that, Bruce.
There is no alternative, you can't change the drive letters assigned to the system or boot volumes once the OS is installed. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org |

Changing The Letter Of Boot Drive Or Boot Partition
Anyway somebody gave me a good reason for not to change the boot letter, even
if there was an adecuate method: Many programs do not ask the operating system for that letter; they just suppose it is C, without further verification. So, if I change C for W, for instance, then it'll be probable that many programs suck. |

If there are any programs that don't give you a choice when installing, they are extremely rre. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |
