Default Changing The Letter Of Boot Drive Or Boot Partition

Hi. My current OS (XP) boots on C partition. I want to rename this partition
as W (W from Windows) (obviously, I want my XP still boots on this new W
partition). What are the steps? thanks.

There are no steps. You can't do this. You can rename any partition except
the one Windows is on.

This *might* work, but no guarantees:

1) Delete the existing partition.

2) Use a 3rd Party boot manager to create a new partition, format it,
and assign it the desired drive letter.

3) Reinstall WinXP and applications.

I meant an alternative to that, Bruce.

1) Delete the existing partition.

2) Use a 3rd Party boot manager to create a new partition, format it,
and assign it the desired drive letter.

3) Reinstall WinXP and applications.

There is no alternative, you can't change the drive letters assigned to the
system or boot volumes once the OS is installed.

Anyway somebody gave me a good reason for not to change the boot letter, even
if there was an adecuate method:

Many programs do not ask the operating system for that letter; they just
suppose it is C, without further verification.

So, if I change C for W, for instance, then it'll be probable that many
programs suck.

Once again, I have no C: hard drive here, and I have *never* run into that
problem. If there are any programs that don't give you a choice when
installing, they are extremely rre.
