Default I need help!!!

I like to play around with my computer and some times I get in over my head.
I have a generic computer running Win98se. I loaded Winxp over it. Now,
because I didn't "register" Winxp it has stopped performing. I would like to
uninstall it and replace the Win98se. Any suggestions on how to get out of
this self inflicted mess?

Boot with a Win98 boot disk and fdisk the drive. Then clean install
Win98 the way you usually do.

Format the hard drive and install SE as a new install.

And just as an addendum, you'll probably need to start fdisk and do /mbr
in addition to deleting all the partitions and then rebooting with the
boot disk and doing format.

The first thing to do before formatting the hard drive is verify you have
the ProductKey. Look at it; touch it; record it in a second place.

If you did an upgrade over Windows 98 you might be able to do an uninstall
if you can boot into Safe Mode. Start the computer and keep tapping the F8
key till you see the boot menu. Select the option for Safe Mode. If you can
get to the Desktop then go to Control Panel-Add and Remove Programs and
select the option to uninstall Windows XP. Check here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314052

However as others have pointed out you might just want to bite the bullet
and wipe the drive and do a new install of 98.

Why not just activate the XP, as long as it isn't a pirated
copy?
