Default [Q]about automatic loading of software during boot-up

I recently installed software for "The Weather Channel Desktop." When I boot
my computer, the program automatically loads, runs, and appears on my
desktop. I do not want this program to automatically load and run when I
boot my computer. If I want to use the program, I will manually run it. How
do I get this program to stop loading when I boot my computer?

Look in the program itself for options to stop it loading with Windows.
If it really doesn't have any (look carefully), then use the System
Configuration Utility to stop it.

StartRunmsconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab
and find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply
and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time
you do you'll get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick
the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

if it's in start programs startup just delete the shortcut there

or

go to start run

then enter msconfig

you can uncheck that program in startup

Look in the program settings to see if you can stop it using its own
internal methods...
If you cannot - my suggestion is to drop the badly written/planned out crap
software and find something better.

However - the other way would be to look in the Start button -- All
Programs -- Startup folder.
Barring that...

Start button -- RUN -- MSCONFIG -- OK
Startup Tab...

See if you can find where it is starting from (registry maybe?) Then go
there and remove it - do not remove it using MSCONFIG. Good/easy tool to
utilize and understand - but isn't really made to do the removal.

If you find no joy with the other methods mentioned:
Try Autoruns from SysInternals:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
This will show all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot and
selectively allow you to stop any that you don't want.

Note: You may need to highlight an item (right click) and use the Google
option on some entries to get the details on obscure entries found in the
list.
