CTFMON.exe
CTFMON.EXE: What is this program and why does it keep try to load at startup?
It seems to be pervasive whenever I either instal or upgrade a program. Since one of my anti-malware programs keeps flaging it, thought I'd check in this forum. Thanks in advance for the help. |

This is your 'Language Bar'. Control Panel Regional and Language Options
Languages tab Details button Language Bar button (under Preferences) select "Turn off advanced text services" check box. "BearPup" wrote in message ... http://www.google.com/search?q=ctfmon.exe It is possible that malware/spyware has renamed it self to ctfmon.exe and is now running under that name. If you do not have the office suite then i would suggest getting rid of it as it is most likely Malware. Also WHICH scanning software do you have? have you checked their forums? |

AnonUser, Thanks for your reply. That it might be malware was my initial concern, as my StartupMonitor program kept asking if I wanted to allow the change (allowing it to start at start-up); and I kept saying no. I did folllow Jerry's suggestion yesterday as I had installed East Asian fonts on my system in order to have Simplified Chinese and Japanese for display purposes. I have unchecked advanced text services, and so far it hasn't tried to reload ctfmon.exe. PC Protection: Spybot w/ real time active; Windows Defender, w/ real time active; ad-aware; Avast anti virus w/ real time active; Zone Alarm Firewall w/ real time active; and StartupMonitor w/ real time active. I think that's all of them. I'll also run full system scans, as well as check the forums as you suggest. Thanks for the help. BearPup |

I have this problem on my son's PC also. It's not running any OfficeXP
products. I also checked on the Advanced Text Services-it is NOT checked. Ctfmon.exe still loads. ??? "Jerry" wrote: This is your 'Language Bar'. Ctfmon.exe will also load if you have IE7. This is usually not a problem. I've never seen an antivirus flag it, although of course any file can be infected. If your antivirus is flagging ctfmon.exe and the computer otherwise scans clean, you should contact your antivirus maker's tech support to make sure this isn't a false positive. I thought we were still running IE 6.x, but knowing the wife, she may have
updated against my instructions. If I "downgarde" to 6.x, will ctfmon go away? It seems that it slows the PC down when it's running. I also imagine that if I outright delete it, IE will somehow repopulate it. "Malke" wrote: Chuck wrote: I have this problem on my son's PC also. It's not running any OfficeXP products. As I said, it seems extremely unlikely to me that ctfmon.exe is causing your issues. However, you may wish to post your question in the newsgroup for Internet Explorer: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general. Make sure you include the version of IE you're using in your post. Sorry I was unable to help you. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User |
