My start up toolbar went to the Right side of my screen and I cannot get it
back. Also, my Icons on my screen have a blue square aroind the words instead
of being clear. It makes the photo I have loaded as a screen saver look
funny. I've tried fixing both, but have gotton no where. Can anyone help me??

Default Screen Apperance

Greetings Kshreiner:

If by "start up toolbar" you mean your Quick Launch toolbar, here's how
to move it back to the left side of the Taskbar, next to the Start button:

Right-click on the Taskbar and remove the check mark from 'Lock the
Taskbar'. You'll see so-called handles on the left and right sides of
your Quick Launch toolbar. Drag the left handle with your mouse until
it's next to the Start button, then drag the right handle until the
Quick Launch toolbar is the size you wish. Put the check mark in 'Lock
the Taskbar'.

To restore the transparent background to your icons, go to Control Panel
| Display | Appearance tab and set 'Windows and buttons' to Windows XP
style.

Thank you for your very timely response, however, even after unlocking the
taskbar, it will not show me the "drag" handle for me to move it. Also, I
followed the directions for making icons transparent, but it's still blue.
Help!!

Hello,

There is no drag handle .. just click anywhere along the blue area and drag
the bar to the bottom .. the taskbar will not follow the cursor till your
cursor comes close to the bottom

Thank you, but it will not drag, even when the cursor is at the bottom. Any
advice on making my icon names transparent again?

First, note that it's called the "Task Bar."

went to the Right side of my screen and I cannot
get it back.

Although by default the task bar appears on the bottom of the screen, it can
be on any of the sides you prefer it on. To move it from any side to
another, simply click on an unused part of it and drag it where you want it.
Be sure to click *within* it, not on the edge; clicking on the edge and
dragging will resize it.

If it won't move, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it and
uncheck "Lock the taskbar," then try again.

To have transparent icons:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced" tab,
under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects" tab, make sure
the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by" "Lock
Web items" is not checked.

3) Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Properties. Othe "Desktop" tab,
click "Customize Desktop," then on the "Web" tab, uncheck all boxes.

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.

If you mean the task bar then just drag it to the bottom of the screen.

The screen and icon highlight/color is adjusted in the desktop
properties appearance.

Yes. He might have to make sure it's not locked first.

The screen and icon highlight/color is adjusted in the desktop
properties appearance.

No, he apparently wants transparent icons, and four things are
required for that:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced"
tab, under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects"
tab, make sure the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by"

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.
