wireless printer question

Can someone tell me how these new network wireless printers work? Does this
mean you don't have to hook them up to your computer? Does anyone have one of
these that they can tell me how it works and if they like it?

I'm not sure what printers you're referring to, but with respect to the
hp 6980, I have two earlier versions of this printer and I think they're
great. You do not have to have them connected to a computer (other
than initially, perhaps, to configure them). This means you can have a
wireless printer available anytime, without having to keep a computer
powered up and active. At $135 from hp (cheaper "on the street"),
that's hard to beat.

Yes I do have a wireless network set. I was wondering if I had to hook one of
these new wireless printers up to my computer or router ? The way the guy in
the store said my network would just pick it up. I wanted to make sure this
was true before shelling out money for a new printer. Any info you can give
me will be appreciated. Thank yo.

As I said, you might have to temporarily hook the printer up to a
computer in order to configure it to recognize your wifi network (your
SSID) and your encryption key. You don't even have to do this if you
have a Linksys wifi router with a "SecureEasy Setup" button or a router
that supports Windows "Connect Now."

If you want to convince yourself how easy the printers are to setup, go
to the website of the manufacturer of whatever printer you're thinking
of and download the User Guide and/or Setup Guide.
