Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
Hi:
When I run Disk Cleanup I have a check beside both Compress Old Files (1,919 KB) and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files (32KB) and it does not hang up but runs to completion. However, when I run it again immediately afterwards it identifies the same files as if nothing is happening. Not compressing or deleting any files. I an running this on a Sony desktop with MCE2005 SP2 and I also have the same problem on a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. This is the first time that I have noticed this happening and on both computers. I am sure that I used to end up with 0KB after running Disk Cleanup, but no apparently no longer. Do I have a problem with Disk Cleanup doing its thing and if so how do I correct it? Thanks, ColTom2 |

Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
Have used Windows Explorer to verify the files are not compressed?
Is this a recent problem? Also note that Disk Cleanup will not delete files that have been created in the last 7 days. Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
Hi JS:
I have no idea how Windows Explorer could verify that my files are compressed or not. I have no idea as to when this problem started. Disk Cleanup works fine applicable everything listed in it except deleting WebClient/Publisher temp files and compressing old files. Thanks, ColTom2 "JS" @ wrote in message ... Compressed files are usually displayed using Windows Explorer using the
color Blue as opposed to the standard on black lettering. Using the Disk Cleanup utility in Windows XP: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...r-files-on-xp/ Take note on how old the files need to be and how this setting can be changed. Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
Hi! I am having the same problem with xp media center but it saves 3 million
files in compress old files! I have it set on 1 day for it to delete all files.. I can not make heads or tails out of the fix for this. Was wondering if you had any suggestion? Thanks Patrick "ColTom2" wrote: Hi: When I run Disk Cleanup I have a check beside both Compress Old Files (1,919 KB) and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files (32KB) and it does not hang up but runs to completion. Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
Try CCleaner as a tool to remove unwanted files which include Internet
history info, cookies, temp files, auto complete and other junk. In the 'Windows' tab listing check the item types you want deleted. Note: also available is customization, see Options/Custom to add any other/additional folders you want files deleted from. http://www.ccleaner.com/ JS "whyshouldipaywindows" wrote in message ... Hi! Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?
I don't know if you've ever found a fix for this issue. I had the exact same problem and came across your question then ended up fixing the Compress Old Files issue myself. I ran Defrag and then I ran Disc Cleanup again and it was fixed. I still have the 32kb on WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files but its only 32kb so I'm not too worried about it right now.
Hope I could help AP ColTom2 wrote: Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files? 25-Sep-07 Hi: When I run Disk Cleanup I have a check beside both Compress Old Files (1,919 KB) and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files (32KB) and it does not hang up but runs to completion.
