cd-roms.
My external is a lite-on sohw 832s dvd+rw and dvd+r DL my internal is a
combo cd-rom and dvd player. I had a system crash and lost evereything and
when I reinstalled everything these two nolonger will work properly.

When you re-installed XP, did you install the motherboard drivers.
If you do not have the CD that comes with your motherboard, go to the makers
website and download them.
That may get things going again.
