Yes, you are right. I was incorrect. But my intention was to state that OE
and Outlook do NOT delete files with normal maintenance unless the user makes it happen. I know the OP so very desperately wants to blame this on MS, but she is wrong. I just wanted other new people reading this thread to understand that the OP is making statements that are not true. Bobby "Kath Adams" wrote in message ... Comments noted, and I hear what you are saying!
And why didn't she post in the OE newsgroup that she subscribed to rather than via the web? vbg One thing I have not asked and that just occured to me is that it may actually be a Hotmail account? If the messages are purged from Hotmail, they disappear from OE. I know she mentioned her ISP as being Comcast, but she may have muddles with this also. If she follows the instructions I posted and has not compacted her mail since she posted (some hopes, as automatic compaction is sure to be enabled!) there may a slight chance of recovery, depending on what happened to delete the mails. Lolo is a Hawaiian word for crazy. Paka is Hawaiian for

Kelly,s websites.................. http://www.kellys- korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://www.kellys-korner- xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Also if it is that important to you use a software like Active uneraser free at: http://www.uneraser.com/download.htm and make sure you download the manuals too.....Aloha. -----Original Message----- Who or what is "lolo"? Restore Points unsuccessful. thank you Paula in Stockton ............ I am in trouble! OK Paula, as everyone else has already said, OE does *not* dump anything just by subscribing to a newsgroup. Hopefully, all may not be lost. Follow these instructions carefully :- Open OE, go to toolsoptionsmaintenancestore folder and note the location that OE is storing the folders. Close OE. In Control Panelfolder optionsview, make sure there is a tick in "Show hidden files and folders". In Windows Explorer, nagivate to the place you noted down in step one. MOVE deleted items.dbx to a safe place on your PC, ideally the desktop. (OE will create a new deleted items folder when you next re-start it. But don't worry about this for the moment.) Download ($5) and install the following program. Use it on the deleted items folder that you moved to see if you can get your messages back. http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx (No guarantees, depending on your OE settings). Some useful maintenance tips. Do NOT store mail that you want to keep in any of the default mail folders of OE. Move them to folders created by you under Local Folders. Disable "compact in the background" and do this manually, frequently, whilst offline. Also, make regular backups of all your mail folders for just such an eventuality. Link to a program that will do this automatically and free for you. http://www.oehelp.com/oebackup/default.aspx -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (IE/OE) |

Paula;
1. Your tech is full of it. Fire him and spend your money with a tech who knows what he is talking about. 2. I have used OE and Outlook for years. Adding newsgroups does NOT delete anything. let me repeat that...adding newsgroups does NOT delete anything. 3. If you lost your husbands emails, it is because YOU did something to delete them. Besides, only an idiot would store his files in the deleted items folder. 4. Perhaps you are not quite ready to be using OE and outlook. I would sugest a visit to your local bookstore or library. There are many books out there written in simple language on how to use your computer and apps like OE and Outlook. I suggest you do some reading. Bobby "paula" wrote in message ...
