thanks again & only the word "internet" is in the status bar.

this is the site & error message I see

https://onlinebanking.vccuonline.net/html/Login.aspx

I just went to that web page. No error message about Javascript. I
clicked on the Login button. Got an error because I didn't enter any
login credentials. I just wanted to check if their Javascript worked
on that page. It did. So it must be the next web page that reports a
Javascript problem; however, I don't have an account there so I cannot
login to get to the next web page.

You could try adding their domain to the Trusted Sites security zone.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to contact them to report that IE8
cannot use their web site. They may be incorrectly detecting the web
browser connecting to them and screwing up on that detection. For
example, they may look for a range of UA (user agent) strings that web
browsers report to identify themselves but the UA string for IE8 is
not in their list.

In HELP, it says:
... Using an unsupported browser may affect the look and layout of your
home banking session. Additionally, some tools and messages may not load.
For more details or a list of supported browsers, please call us at 805/
477-4000 or 800/ 339-0496 or email us at . Thank
you. ...

Have you checked that out?

Twayne

I am trying to find out how to enable it, but still searching.

any/all will be appreciated - thanks ia!

Until you fix your IE issue, why not try another Web browser for now?
Opera, Firefox, and K-Meleon are all very good. Links:

http://www.opera.com/

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

You don't even need to make your alternate browser the default one.
Whenever you want to use it, simply double-click the desktop shortcut
icon.

As you may know, Maxthon is not a browser per se, but rather a "shell"
for Internet Explorer, so it doesn't surprise me you have the same
problem when using it.

I hope you feel better, Dallas.

Until you fix your IE issue, why not try another Web browser for now?
Opera, Firefox, and K-Meleon are all very good. Links:

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

You don't even need to make your alternate browser the default one.
Whenever you want to use it, simply double-click the desktop shortcut
icon.

Default bank site & enabling java

Dallas wrote:

thanks very much for this - been running for over 5 minutes now as i see the
same sites again & again - not sure how long it is to run.

its now done & here's the results:

============================================
RESULTS (means and 95% confidence intervals)
--------------------------------------------
Total: 81890.8ms +/- 28.7%
--------------------------------------------

snip

My total was 8932 (using IE8), 8908 with add-ons disabled. I'm on cable
broadband (12Mbps, or higher, for bandwidth). I'm using a 7-year old
host (AMD Athlon XP 3200+ single core, 2GB RAM). Something is really
slowing down your IE, like maybe an add-on. See if it speeds up if you
run IE with all add-ons disabled.

IE (any version) has the slowest Javascript engine (Jscript). Firefox
is about 3-4 times faster, Chrome is even faster, and Safari bounces
around in its new releases to be slightly faster or slower than Chrome.
So anything involving Javascript for IE is slow (and why Microsoft
better get their head out of their butts if they want to compete as a
platform for the evolving AJAX web apps and desktops showing up).

Nothing would run from that site unless Javascript was working in your
web browser. They build the pages dynamically using Javascript. If
scripting isn't enabled, all you get is a HTML/HTML web page (i.e.,
it's empty). So that it runs means Javascript *is* enabled in your web
browser. It is the bank site that farked; however, your score is
exceedingly poor which indicates you have something severely slowing the
performance of your web browser.

As you may know, Maxthon is not a browser per se, but rather a "shell" for
Internet Explorer, so it doesn't surprise me you have the same problem
when using it.

I hope you feel better, Dallas.

just tried to log into my credit union's site & they now say :"Your

support JavaScript or JavaScript may be disabled. Please enable
JavaScript on your browser. "
I am trying to find out how to enable it, but still searching.

any/all will be appreciated - thanks ia!

Until you fix your IE issue, why not try another Web browser for now?
Opera, Firefox, and K-Meleon are all very good. Links:

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

You don't even need to make your alternate browser the default one.
Whenever you want to use it, simply double-click the desktop shortcut
icon.

It tells me that:

1. There is still some setting in IE that needs to be changed

2. You need to close IE and empty the browser cache and run IE again

3. There is a plugin or a third-party program interfering with IE's
scripting

or

4. You may have malware

I am glad that Opera is working for you. The first thing I would do is
close IE, empty the browser cache (there are many different ways to do
this; if you need guidance, post back) and reboot. And checking for
malware is always wise. If no joy, give us a complete list of all your
security programs (firewall, antivirus, antispyware, etc.).

Good luck!
