PC has no video
My PC lost its video, the monitor shows nothing at all, but the PC seems
running normally, since I can not see the screen, I am not 100% sure, but all the signs show normal. The monitor is checked ok with another PC, and the video card in the problematic PC is switched, same result. I have built PCs for years, this is the first time that I encounter such a strange problem. Gurus, help please. The PC is 4 years old XP. |

But, do you see any display during boot? Can you get to the BIOS or Safe Mode and get a display? -- Joe =o) |

I only can tell from the noise of booting, everything seems ok, but absolutely no screen, did not try getting into BIOS, but I believe it'll be the same result of no screen. Ths computer was built by myself and used for 4 years, very good and powerful, this problem happened only two months ago, in the beginning, every 4 - 5 boots, I might get the screen by luck, now, it is absolutely no screen. |

You said you tried another video card. Did you try a different slot for the video card(assuming you have a second slot of that type)? If it's an AGP or PCI-e slot, try a plain PCI video card. It sounds to me like the problem has to be a motherboard failure--either of the particular slot or the entire motherboard. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |

PC has no video
I'm having a similar problem. First normal boot gets blue screen when Welcome
screen should load. Second boot gets black screen with mouse pointer visible at the same step. All safe modes respond as in second normal boot. Computer is running - I do get the default screen saver if system is left idle, but no desktop. Video works fine if I boot from installation dvd. One more item - if I try system restore from installation dvd, it says I have no restore points (which I did before this problem). I'm pretty sure this is related to the "release" video drive for ATI Radeon X300, but I can't get back in the system to install the beta hotfix.
