question re drag and drop in 8.1 Windows Explorer
When I drag a file from one folder to another in Windows Explorer, a
large graphic image (generic file image) with a label saying that I'm moving it to folder xxx appears during the operation. Is there a way to disable the image but keep the message when performing this type of operation? Failing that, can the graphic image itself at least be resized to a much smaller size? Thanks, John |

Thanks, John In Windows 7 the recommendation is: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...6-c0f541ceb2b6 "If you go into Advanced System Settings Performance Settings and then uncheck "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" it makes things look more like Windows XP. I prefer the simple XP look anyway so that solution works for me. The HUGE icon must just be part of the Windows 7 visual style -- I couldn't find any other way to change it." "And there`s no "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" in Windows 8." So what would be needed then, is to see what registry setting gets changed in Windows 7 by that, then look for the same in Windows 8. ******* Here is a starting point for your experiments. See if this key exists. On WinXP, the value "4" disabled it. Write down the original setting, for later. http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/regfiles_2.htm ; Themes 00000002=Automatic,00000004=Disabled ; Same effect as Use Visual Styles On Windows And Buttons [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Themes] "Start"=dword:00000004 I'm not running Win8 right now, so can't test it.
