Printer notification icon does not appear

Printer notification icon does not appear

Printing from a Dell laptop with Win Xp, to an HP
LaserJet 5si, on a network, the printer notification icon
does not appear in the notification area of the task
bar. Looked at the properties, customize button for the
notification area, and the printer icon does show in the
current or past itmes areas.

Any help would be appreciated.
