Default Internet Gateway is disabled after autoupdate on patches.

I'm running XP pro.
had a netgear firewall router connected to the PC.
Initially, it will display the internet gateway connection
on the systray. after applying auto-update, the internet
gateway connection (in Network Connections) is always
showing status is "disabled".
I can't re-enable it, but internet connection is fine.
anyone know a fix for this?
thanks!
