Default XP Home - XP Pro sharing problem

Hi, folks. Here's the problem:

Computer A runs XP Pro
Computer B runs XP Home.

Computer B can see and use shares on Computer A. However, Computer A
cannot see or use shares on Computer B. The error messages are "Access
is denied" and "Logon failu the user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer."

Both A and B are in the same workgroup.
Both A and B have Simple File Sharing enabled.
Both A and B have the Guest account enabled.

Both A and B have identical user accounts, with identical
passwords on those account.

If I issue a plain "net view" command from Computer A, the name of
Computer B does show up. However, an attempt to view the shares on B
using "net view \\computer_B" generates an error.

Even an explicit, command-prompt-based attempt to map a Computer B
share, using username and password, fails. E.g., from Computer A command
line I type:

c:\ net use l: \\computer_B\sharename /user:bob bobspassword

This generates the "logon failure" error.

Not long ago there was no problem accessing these shares! Now, nothing.
Could it be that a virus or trojan altered some registry keys?

Thanks for the info. This procedure won't work here, however, because
the remote machine is running XP Home Edition, and the "Local Security
Settings" option doesn't appear in "Administrative Tools."

Brian,

have you ever installed a third party firewall or similar
network security software on the target computer that now
refuses access?

You may be lucky if it can be completely uninstalled, but some
of these products are so bad that they leave you with the
desaster they caused even after you uninstall them.

Could be something else, of course, I can't tell for sure from
the available information.

Except that it didn't work for the last 9 hours. I made a
mistake, just corrected, now it works again.

Sorry to everyone who tried to use the site, but got only a
JavaScript error.
