help with installing driver for video card?
I started out trying to install a driver for a webcam. Let me just say, I am
not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers. I didn't know what I was doing and could not find webcam driver, so i decided to give up and uninstall whatever i had done. i think i may have uninstalled wrong driver. everything on computer got really big, words, icons, everything! so i looked on yahoo answers how to fix this. i went to screen resolution. was able to get things smaller but something is still off. it still looks funny. screen resolution will only go to far left or far right, i can not set it to anything in the middle to try and fix the look of my screen. I read up on this prob, screen resolution not working and was told i needed to install a driver for my video card. tried to find out what kind of video card i have and it says " the system is using the generic video driver provided by hardware manufacturer." main driver vga.dll version 5.01.2600.0000 english. looked up brand and spec of card and found this info: name: video controller (VGA compatible), installed drivers: not available, installed version: not available. so I know I need to re-install a driver for my video card but how and what kind of driver? where do i find it? spell it out for me in plain english as i am a big dummy at this kind of stuff. trying to save $ and not go to best buy with this!!!! I have a COMPAQ Presario R3000 laptop running on windows xp if that helps. then after all that I need to figure out how to load the webcam driver for Philips Pixel Plus webcam!!!!!! was given to me used, with no disk!!! thanks guys! |

Hopefully someone who knows XP will be along shortly to fix your problem. It shouldn't take long. Have you tried doing a System Restore from a time just before the problem happened? System Restore? Use Start,Help to see how to use it. Buffalo |

help with installing driver for video card?
you can likely restore the computer
in a couple of ways. perhaps the easiest is to boot up and hold down the f8 key so that the diagnostic boot menu pops up. then select the option called: "last known good configuration" it will then load windows and hopefully if will revert everything back to normal. if the option above doesn't pan out, then reboot and get to the diagnostic menu again. except this time select safemode. this will launch windows without third party drivers. however, your resolution may also be basically overstated. if you can manage, ignore the over stated desktop and seek out the system restore feature. then from the system restore calendar select a highlighted/bolded date just before you installed the cam drivers. this should restore your computer to a functional state. afterwards, let us know your status. -- db·´¯`·...¸)))º DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com - nntp Postologist ~ "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "mindydee113" u55080@uwe wrote in message news:9cc00c62359f5@uwe... help with installing driver for video card?
DB - your suggestion did the trick! I had initially tried system restore &
that did not work. that was the 1st thing I thought of. However, i took your advice and re-booted computer & clicked F8 while it was re-starting. Then "last known good configuration". It worked like a charm! Computer is now back to normal!!!! I thought I was going to have to do something way more complicated than that! LOL I also fixed my webcam issue. I took a flash drive stick and copied the webcam driver and webcam icon off another computer and then installed flash drive in my laptop and just dragged them onto desk top. That was super easy as well! You are a lifesaver! Have a great day! I'll return when I have my next computer crisis!!!! LOL (hopefully not anytime soon but it WILL happen, i just know it!) db wrote: you can likely restore the computer in a couple of ways. perhaps the easiest is to boot up and hold down the f8 key so that the diagnostic boot menu pops up. then select the option called: "last known good configuration" it will then load windows and hopefully if will revert everything back to normal. if the option above doesn't pan out, then reboot and get to the diagnostic menu again. except this time select safemode. this will launch windows without third party drivers. however, your resolution may also be basically overstated. if you can manage, ignore the over stated desktop and seek out the system restore feature. then from the system restore calendar select a highlighted/bolded date just before you installed the cam drivers. this should restore your computer to a functional state. afterwards, let us know your status. help with installing driver for video card?
glad it worked out.
--------------- incidentally, I would make a system restore point at this time, which will preserve the functional state of your computer for future use if needed. -- db·´¯`·...¸)))º DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com - nntp Postologist ~ "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "mindydee113" u55080@uwe wrote in message news:9cc0ee28dc9ec@uwe... help with installing driver for video card?
I think I managed to get the webcam hooked up, I hope I did it right. I have
one webcam & 2 laptops, 1 for me & 1 for my daughter. Somebody installed driver onto daughter's laptop for her. I took a flashdrive put it into her laptop & dragged both icons onto flashdrive. 1 icon for driver and 1 for camera. Then put flashdrive into my laptop and dragged icons onto desk top. Clicked on icons & done, they were installed. Now, do i still have to download the software? The webcam was given to me without any disk or instructions with it. It is a Philips Pixel Plus webcam model # SPC890NC. I was able to turn webcam on and take a picture but have yet to use it for a chat. jinxy wrote: you can likely restore the computer in a couple of ways.
