Default accessing registry even being administrator

whenever i try to install/uninstall any software an error
message pops up saying that so and so registry key
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE could not be created/removed.
i am the administrator using win XP SP1. the message says
to confirm if i have sufficient access to the registry .
i checked that i have given full control to the system
and administrator in the registry.but still the same
error message appears
