In Windows 7, the software you need comes preinstalled. All you have to do is purchase an upgrade key from Microsoft or another authorized retailer to unlock those shiny new features. |

You'll need to ensure that your processor supports Virtualization for XP Mode (many processors do NOT). From Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/system-requirements.aspx Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on hth -- Chet |

Yes, for Home / Small & Medium Business users I would recommend at least 7
Professional to anyone who has a laptop that will ever leave the house. And 7 Professional on any desktop computer used the computer for more than games ... and 7 Ultimate if you think there's even an outside possibility the use of BitLocker might be possible and attractive. Then there's no regrets over dollars or worry and fuss. "Leon Manfredi" wrote in message ... ... Did you bother to look? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...nytime-upgrade -- "Never argue with an idiot, they will knock you down to their level and beat you with experience." I was curious about the cost of these anytime upgrades and instead of getting a straight answer from the FAQ in the above link, you get this: "You'll see pricing information for each edition during the Windows Anytime Upgrade process. You can also go to an electronics store to see prices and to buy a Windows Anytime Upgrade key." During the Windows Anytime Upgrade process? Isn't that kinda' late if price is the deciding factor whether I want to upgrade in the first place? So that leaves a trip to a store. I guess it must be different at many places. |

Just start the upgrade via this process... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...nytime-upgrade And after it evaluates what you have and where you want to upgrade to, it will give you the price before you enter any $$$ information or actually start the upgrade. You can then decide to continue, pay, and perform upgrade or quit with nothing changed and no money spent. |
