Access to XP Administrator account
That's what I meant by Pro only. For XP Home you must boot into Safe Mode to
be able to access the built-in Administrator account. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows XP/ Windows Smart Display Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Associate Expert ExpertZone - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Unsolicited e-mail is not answered. "Mike Parsons" wrote in message ... Thanks, but I still have one problem. First of all I am running XP Home. I ran your VB executable to add the registry change. Now, I can access the account in User Manager and change the password. On the login screen, I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice and get the old NT style login (you said that was only Pro...). Anyway, it won't let me log in. Should it? It says that I can't log in due to an "account restriction." Is this simply because there are other accounts? I saw something about not being on the login screen if other accounts existed, does this apply in this case? -----Original Message----- If you're running XP Pro, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome Screen, with no users logged on. You'll get the old Win2K style logon. For XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode and you'll see the Administrator account listed on the Welcome Screen. Additionally, To enable the Administrator account on the new Windows XP logon screen, visit my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP section. Follow the link for Enable Administrator Account ...... This small VB Script will make the registry change necessary for the Administrator account to be available on the Welcome Screen. If you prefer to do it manually, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserLi st\ Note: There is a space between Windows and NT in the above Key. Add the Administrator account if necessary and/or change the Administrator value to 1 -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows XP/ Windows Smart Display Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Associate Expert ExpertZone - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. I cannot seem to find a way to even see the Administrator account. On the login screen, all I see are my user accounts, one of which has admin privileges. How do I access the administrator account? Is there a setting to change, which will allow me to see it and change the password? . |
