Default change IP address

I am worried about a hacker that may have my IP address .
He may have gotten it through an instant message I had
with him . I am worried that he may send an Trojan to my
computer . My question is : Can I change my IP address to
thwart a hacker ? Is it done by myself or through my
ISP ?
I am on dial-up , if that makes a difference . This
hacker is a cruel and vindictive person and I want to
change my IP address to protect my computer . Thank you
for any help that can be given . Max

Well if you're using a dial-up account, try disconnecting and then
reconnecting. Usually you get assigned a new IP with each dial-up. To check
your IP address, open a command prompt and type 'ipconfig'. You may also
want to consider at least enabling the XP firewall and maybe getting a
dedicated hardware firewall or setting up a machine to handle firewalling
tasks.
